Happy Fourth of July
Every year, my parents would take us (me and my nephew) to South Carolina to one of the Firework Outlets and let us pick out firecrackers -- to our dismay, they wouldn't allow us to pick any of the heavy ones, of course. We would take them home and my dad, brother-in-law or older cousins would light them for us. We would watch, awe-struck, as they lit up the sky. It was the one night where we were allowed to stay up past 10 PM. It was so much fun.
I love our country and I'm so grateful, proud and honored to be an American. However, the Fourth of July is about so much more to me. It's about spending stress-free time with your loved ones. I'm from a working-class family, so it was always hard to get everyone together for quality time. It's the one day of the year where everyone was off work and we thoroughly enjoyed the time that we had with each other.
This year, I decided that I would spend the day with two of my closest friends, Lisa and Chavaya. I barely get to see them so I thought that today would be perfect for us to get together and have fun. Today was a great day. I don't get to see Chavaya much because he's always busy and Lisa is moving to Florida in a few days (here comes the tears). I'm going to miss her so much. It was nice! It almost didn't happen -- we all thought that Hurricane Arthur would still be chilling around today. I woke up to sunshine and texted Lisa the lyrics to Sesame Street...
"Sunny days. Chasing the clouds away. On my way, to where the air is sweet. Can you tell me how to get... how to get to Sesame Street?"
We decided to head out to the New Bern Waterfront -- Union Pointe Park to enjoy the scenery and watch the fireworks. Downtown New Bern is so beautiful -- I'm definitely planning to retire there.
Of course I had my camera with me. Here are some of the shots from today.
I'm a sucker for love. There were so many couples and families out today. I love watching people in love interact with each other. It's so beautiful.
Of course I acted like a big kid when I saw that there was an Ice Cream Truck out. Unfortunately, he didn't have any of the ice cream treats that I like. -_-
Everyone relaxing on the waterfront as they're waiting for the Fireworks Show to begin. Unfortunately we were all in the wrong location, facing the wrong way. When the show started everyone began running to the other side of the waterfront at the same time. Pretty hilarious!
I thought my outfit was everything.
Lisa and Chavaya.
New Bern has these random Bear Statues around town. How appropriate that this one has been painted like the American Flag. Pretty awesome.
Happy Fourth of July, everyone! I hope your day was as amazing.
Until Next Time
Smiles + Happiness,
