Listen To Yourself
Sunday was a lazy day for me. After shooting a wedding on Saturday, I was exhausted! I literally laid in the bed all day with my big sister. We joked, laughed and talked about everything under the sun -- as we do most times when we're together. As always, we began talking about life and our futures when she shared a Facebook status that she posted just a few hours earlier.
She is so wise!
It's funny that my other sisters liked the status right before I took the screenshot.
This message resonated with me so much that I had to share it and my story with you all.
Before I decided to start my photography business, it was something that I thought about daily. I started in high school while I was doing my Senior Project and loved it so much that I wanted to major in photography. Unsure of what I really wanted to do -- I'm a man of many talents -- I allowed the opinions of others to allow me to decide against it.
"A higher being calls each and every one of us to rise. Those who are unsuccessful answer that call with resistance."
I was miserable in college and changed my major several times. Undecided - Freshman Year, Urban and Regional Planning - Sophomore Year, Math Education - Junior Year, Math - Senior Year.
I'm a firm believer in things happening how and when they're supposed to happen. At the end of Junior Year -- one of my best friends, Stephanie, asked me if I could take cap and gown pictures of her for graduation announcements. The funny thing is, she never knew that I had any background in photography. We grabbed her point-and-shoot camera and headed to campus, in the rain and snapped away. It wasn't until after our "session" -- after seeing how much she loved her pictures -- that I fell in love with photography again. This time, I wasn't letting anyone convince me otherwise.
From our "session" together. These were beautiful!
I literally decided at that very moment that I was going to be serious about a career in photography.
"We are all blessed with gifts! When we discover those gifts and choose to tap into them in order to answer to the call for our lives, then everything changes. God will begin to place people, things and opportunities in your life that you could never image or do on your own. This is when your success will happen."
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about where I am, how far I've come and how far I have to go. I thank God for blessing me with all of my talents -- specifically for the resources that have provided me to wake up everyday and look forward to doing something that I love. All I've ever wanted to do is to make people smile. Through photos, I am able to do that.
Too often I see people miserable with in their jobs and careers and I couldn't imagine living that life. I'm saying all of this to say, when you love doing something and are talented in a certain area -- find a way to make a living doing it. Stop ignoring that call for what you're supposed to be doing, stop thinking you can't do it, start researching ways to start and just make it happen. Listen to your inner self.
Until next time,
Smiles + Happiness,
